Welcome to Trondheim Short Track Skating Club
Welcome to Trondheim Short Track Skating Club (TKK), Norway's first dedicated short track club. The club was founded on May 10, 2010, and has since experienced enormous growth. However, we are constantly evolving.
Our home arena is Leangen Youth Hall, which is part of Leangen Sports Park.
Our stated goal is to build the short track sport from the ground up, something we do by, among other things, organizing skating schools twice a season. Our slogan is "We build in breadth to reach the top." Trondheim Short Track Skating Club is a club for everyone, with members ranging from 3 years old to over 80 years old, and all are equally important to the club. We also have a training group for people with disabilities who participate alongside the rest of our athletes in the club. Our long-term goal is to produce national team athletes in short track.
What is Short Track Speed Skating?
Short track speed skating is a relatively new sport in Norway. There was a fairly strong environment in Bergen and Western Norway in the 1970s, before a national short track team was established in connection with the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer. This team continued until the late 1990s.
Short track takes place on a rink the size of a hockey rink. The length of the track is 111.12 meters, and races are held with up to six skaters. Time is not the most important factor in short track, as placement at the finish line is what counts.
Membership and Training Fees
Everyone using the ice during the club's training times must be a member of TKK and pay the training fee. Updated prices can be found at www.kortbane.no.
Invoices for membership are sent out in mid-December each year, and training fees are sent out at the start of the season.
The training fee goes toward covering ice rental and coaches.
License
Skaters over 12 years old must obtain a license from the Norwegian Skating Federation (NSF). For those participating in more than one of the sports under the NSF umbrella (i.e., short track, long track, figure skating, roller derby), it is sufficient to have a license for just one of these. The license includes insurance that covers injuries during training and races. For skaters who wish to participate in competitions, a license is required. The club orders licenses on behalf of the skater, so please get in touch if necessary. More information about the license can be found on the NSF website.
Rules and Safety
Short track speed skating is a sport with a strong focus on safety. Trondheim Short Track Skating Club has therefore created the following safety rules:
- Note! Users, and/or parents of minors, are responsible for putting on protective pads.
- At all sessions where speed is high enough to pose a risk of injury in case of a fall, there must always be safety pads against the wall.
- Mandatory protective gear must always be used (see more information under "Mandatory Gear on Ice")
- During TKK training sessions, the coach will control the session.
- Everyone should show consideration for all skaters on the ice - we have all types of skaters in our club.

Mandatory Gear on Ice
The club has some equipment available for loan, but after a month, we expect athletes to provide their own safety gear. We can assist with this, check out equipment and prices at www.kortbane.no.
At all training sessions (except for skating school, recruit 1, and adapted training) organized by Trondheim Short Track Skating Club, it is required that all participants have the following equipment:
- Full-face helmet (not a bicycle helmet, as this has too large holes). Helmets can be purchased through the club.
- Gloves (cut-resistant). Can be purchased through the club or, for example, at Tess.
- Shin guards (can be purchased through the club in combination with leg protection or at a sports store).
- Long-sleeve shirt. All skin, except for the face, must be covered by clothing.
- Tight-fitting training pants.
- Note! TKK's cut-resistant suits offer good protection against cuts. Contact tkk@kortbane.no for more information.
- Skates with a fixed heel (clap skates are not allowed).
- Short track skates must have rounded tips - both front and back.
Water Bottles Must Be Made of Plastic!
For skating school, recruit 1, and adapted training, the following equipment is required to participate in organized training:
- Helmet
- Clothing that covers the whole body. A suit can also be used.
- For recruit 1 who has started with short track skates, cut-resistant ankle protection and neck protection are also required.
Skates and Blades
Skate blades should not be used on any surface other than ice, so skates must have covers. These can be purchased through the club.
It is advisable to bring an old towel to dry the skates after training to avoid rusting the blades.
We rent short track skates in various sizes, both short track skates and Viking Unlimited (for beginners). For more information, contact the coaches or the board.
Training and Competition Suits
The club sells full-body cut-resistant suits. Contact tkk@kortbane.no for prices.
